Things that make me happy

One of the points of our Ecclesiastes study was to enjoy life, despite the fact that we live in a broken world and that we experience a lot of pain. I love how Ecclesiastes goes against the notion that to enjoy life is selfishness.

Someone talked about trying to make a list of things that made him happy and it was blank. That made me sad, but it also made me want to make a list. Mine won't be blank. Here it is off the top of my head...

Things that make me happy
  • Spending time with Danny
  • Eating a meal with friends and having good conversation and laughing together
  • Being comfortable with people
  • Singing
  • Dancing
  • Reading a good book
  • Watching a good movie
  • Escaping reality via the last three things on the list
  • When Danny makes fun of me in a way that lets me know he actually loves my quirks.
  • Naps and sleeping in
  • Animals (bugs don't count)
  • Interaction with children
  • Making people laugh
  • Singing with my dad playing the piano
  • Learning more about myself
  • Shopping when I have money to spend
  • The fact that my sister likes red wine as much as I do. (having someone to share it with.)
  • Text-messaging
  • Mt. Dew
  • Learning to accept where I am in life
  • Being comfortable in my own skin
  • Being in the sand on the beach right where the water comes up
  • Super Serving Saturdays
  • The sounds of an old house
I think I could keep going. Basically I think there are plenty of things that are out there to help me enjoy life, but I have to be intentional about taking time for the things above and not let the stresses and pain of life keep me from what is to be enjoyed. Easier said than done...
